Methodology

The JackBe Application Methodology (JAM) emphasizes software usability and efficient development. It can work within the framework of the industry-standard Rational Unified Process (RUP) or other established protocols.

Key Features

  • User-centered design (UCD). UCD refers to building a software product from the perspective of the end user. UCD begins with a "top down" analysis of user needs, followed by implementation of the user interface to meet those user needs, and finally by building the functionality to support the user interface. UCD's top-down approach has three main advantages over the traditional bottom-up approach.
    1. Communication. Building the interface first provides an excellent communication tool between developers, management and end-users, to optimize functionality and presentation.
    2. Easier integration. UCD reduces the traditional integration nightmare of the bottom-up approach, since the software is integrated from the beginning.
    3. Morale. It is a significant morale boost for all involved to see from very early on what the final product will look like.
  • Iterative development. Iterative development calls for building a system in a series of iterations, checking that development is on course after each iteration. This reduces the impact of changing requirements and the risk of wasted development effort.
  • Continual testing. Continual testing during development plays a strategic role for successful software projects, allowing corrections to be made early on, before they become expensive and avoiding major disasters.
  • Parallel development. The JAM maximizes the ability to develop different parts of the application in parallel, reducing development time.

Key Implementation Procedures

  • Identify the end-users. Understand the major categories of people that will use the product, and generally describe their needs.
  • Explicitly define user needs. In addition to being important for developers, this provides a means to check with end users that the correct functionality has been identified.
  • Develop the user interface. Design and implement a user interface to support user needs.
  • Define the software functionality. Given a clear idea of user needs, define the software to support those needs.
  • Iteratively build and test the application. Build out software functionality in a series of iterations, keeping the user interface up-to-date during development.

Accelerators

JackBe Services understands the significant benefits you receive from reusable solutions. We learned long ago in the course of creating custom solutions for individual clients that there's no point in "reinventing the wheel". That's why we leverage the experience gained in our past engagements to create reusable Accelerators that speed the creation of specific horizontal or vertical business solutions. JackBe Accelerators provide a "jump start" on creating new applications. These are not completely finished off-the-shelf applications that offer only limited customization potential, but a starting point with pre-built components and interface integration for building totally custom domain-specific applications. Combined with the support of our Services team, these Accelerators enable you to implement Enterprise Mashup applications with:

  • Faster time-to-market
  • Lower implementation risk
  • Lower total cost of ownership
