Masher: What web part in Sharepoint is used to access the mashlet? Also does the SP page update real time as and when the mashlet is refreshed with updated data?

Dan: Every Mashlet has a simple scriptlet that provides access to it. This scriptlet can be used in order to access the mashlet as a native .Net Web Part. To see an example you can paste your mashlet scriptlet into the Content Editor web part.

Masher: Can mashups be used when SharePoint is using Form-based authentications?  I know, for instance, Excel Services are not available in form-based.

Dan: Mashups support numerous authentication models from SharePoint, including Form-based auth.

Masher: Can mashlets running inside SharePont communicate with other assets inside the Sharepoint UI?

Dan: Yes, Mashlets can participate in inter web part communications.

Masher: Where does a mashlet execute?  For example, if you had a mashlet in Sharepoint in the form of a pie graph being served up by SP, is there a component executing within the browser?

Dan: The UI component of the mashlet executes in the browser.  The calls to the sources in the mashup, and the subsequent mashup actions, are all run by the Presto server (i.e. server-based).

Masher: How does security get passed through from external portals in these mashups? For example if your SharePoint list had item level secuirty, do you also manage the authentication through the mashlets?

Dan: Presto respects the underlying authorization of the SharePoint content when leveraging it as part of a mashup.
