JackBe Implements Next-Generation Application for World-wide Sales and Logistics Giant
In today's business world, building a competitive advantage over the competition, often relies on having a functional IT platform that produces high performance results for end users. In the case of Tupperware, www.tupperware.com, functionality and performance were deemed as key factors to their commercial success. By combining Microsoft's .NET technology and JackBe, Tupperware began the implementation of 'Tuppernet'. The primary objective of this project was to provide distributors with current inventory information so that sales representatives can increase customer satisfaction by decreasing customer wait time.
Company Profile
Founded in 1946, Tupperware has expanded today to almost 100 countries around the world with a global workforce of 1.9 million and sales revenue of $1.8 billion. Tupperware follows a direct selling model for its eight brands: Tupperware, Avroy, Shlain, Beautifcontrol, Fuller, Nutrimetics, Nuvo and Swissgarde. The direct-selling model offers Tupperware's customers a personal and convenient way to purchase products that they may not have had access to otherwise. This model is proven success for Tupperware, making them the world-wide industry leader within their market.
The Challenge
Tupperware's commercial model requires that distributors' deliver products to its salesforce in a fast and efficient way. Prior to engaging JackBe, distributors' ability to deliver these products with Tupperware's pre-existing technology yielded slow and ineffective results. Tupperware's legacy technology was a client server application programmed in Visual Basic. This application caused decentralization of information because the only way to update, upgrade or change information was to send diskettes to their field representatives through a delivery service. To build upon Tupperware's world class brand, they needed an application that was robust, scalable and rich in functionality that would provide it's users with a productive tool for business expansion.
The JackBe Solution
To meet this challenge, Tupperware began the implementation of 'Tuppernet' supported by JackBe and Microsoft .NET technology. The project focused on building a new, functional IT platform that would allow access to distributor's information at all times, while also linking the information from the distributors to the sales, accounting, inventory and administrative departments.
The selection of two technologies, JackBe's Presto Platform and Microsoft's .NET technology was made to meet two different yet related needs to ensure Tuppernet's success. Microsoft's .NET technology was selected to create business logic. JackBe's Presto was selected to provide rapid data access directly within a browser. The new solution was scalable and also simplified many of the existing processes. The resulting solution took advantage of the existing technological infrastructure of Tupperware, making the implementation process smooth and simplified.
Why JackBe and Microsoft? JackBe was the ideal solution for Tupperware to realize the vision of next-generation Web 2.0 by rapidly delivering lightweight applications to their distributed sales teams. The framework of Microsoft .NET was as ideal solution as it allowed for development in well-known programming languages, simplifying development and the integration of existing business logic. These integration efforts were performed through the MVC pattern where the business logic was decoupled from the presentation tier. Combined both technologies resulted in an efficient and transparent 'Tuppernet' application.
Benefits
Ultimately, the benefits to the implementation 'Tuppernet' for Tupperware included:
- Increased productivity in the number of sales transactions
- Reduced operation costs through creating a more functional plan of production
- Increased customer satisfaction by decreasing customer wait time
- Simplified processes through the integration of two highly functioning technologies
